17 May 2007 - Squadron Crest Competition

To celebrate a new era and change of OC (Officer Commanding) it was felt to be the right time to have our own squadron badge .

All of the cadets were given a blank ATC crest and given free reign to design their own crests.  The designs came in, with no names on and were assigned a letter (A, B, C ..... etc.) so that it was all done fairly.

Our OC, Mike Turner, was away cruising the Nile so he gave his vote in a sealed envelope with strict instructions that it was only to be opened in a tie!

Wing Staff Officer Maurice Thompson, Wing Warrant Officer Brain Simmonds and our own Pilot Officer Will Embrey locked themselves away in Classroom 1 to decide which design best represented our squadron.  It was so hard that they even opened our OC's vote.

Nearly two hours later, they emerged, looking shattered.  Waving not one, not two but three entries.  It was decided that two designs should be amalgamated and the third one had the best motto.

So well done to cadet Pile, as it was his two designs that will be turned into the squadron badge and cadet Hardman for his brilliant motto!

It was already decided that the Civillian Committee would give £10 as a prize, so they had to dig deep as both boy's deserved it.
